The Route of Salt

If you want to know Sovata better, you can go through a route that surrounds the lakes of the resort to reach the Salt Mountain. The Salt Mountain is a natural reserve of geological type in Praid, Harghita County. It has an area of 60 hectares and includes the Salt Hill, which covers the largest natural salt deposit in Romania.

To enjoy a breathtaking view, ask the locals about Kalvaria. You will find out about the legend of the 14 crosses that descend from the front of a chapel on the hill to the road.

The Mocănița steam train on the Sovata-Câmpul Cetății Route (seasonal)

Rehabilitated recently, the steam train runs again on the Sovata – Câmpu Cetății route. In addition to the pleasant trip it offers, the train is itself a historic tourist destination. The steam train departs daily from Sovata train station at 10, 13, 17 and 19 o’clock. The duration of a trip is 1h and 45 min.
